Brittany's Thesis

While both King Arthur and Beowulf capture the essence of their culture, the Romantic hero, King Arthur embraces those ideals realistically to a higher degree from each end of the spectrum, including his characteristics of a strong leader and his portrayal of good morals.

Shelby's Thesis

The epic hero, Beowulf, and the romantic hero, King Arthur, represent the values and ideals of their culture through the reputations depicted by others, their abundance of loyalty, and their individual deeds and accomplishments. Shown through Beowulf's ideas and reasons for fighting, Beowulf is able to portray his culture more effectively than King Arthur.

Though King Arthur and Beowulf share many similarities, as they are both epic heroes, there are several distinct differences between them, such as their notoriety, their rise to power, and the codes of conduct that they hold with their followers.

Both Beowulf and Lancelot demonstrate the epic and romantic ideals of their times through their deeds, aswell as their arthurs' use of literary techniques. However, Lancelot is a more expemplary example because he captures the chivalry, loyalty and courage that T.H. White believed were in a decline in his society.
